We have now received our new MSG satellite system and with the dish installation early next week, hopefully images will be on the
website soon after. Note, we are only licenced to put out 6 hourly images (0000, 0600, 1200 & 1800hrs)

A sample of the image types is now on the website. http://www.west-cheshire.ac.uk/weather/

They've been heavily compressed from their original large size. The final format for the website will be different to those shown.
The number of cities will be reduced on the European images while I might put more on the Hi Res Vis of the UK.

Rob

Looks super Rob, can't wait for them to go on-line.

I take it you will be making the 00, 06, 12, 18 hours available?
Also, how long roughly after these times until the image(s) appear on
you website?
Finally, how much longer will you be posting the current Meteosat etc,
images?

Thanks for your work

Hi Keith,

Yes they will be available at 6 hourly intervals. From what I gather we should be able to get them on within 15 mins.
As I said the real time ones will be different. Haven't decided on colours of country outlines and gridlines yet .
We will keep the current Meteosat 7 images going till June when Met 7 is switched off.
From then on it's Eumetsat or the Met Office for low resolution hourly images

Hi Rob,
should be interesting when you get it going, its just a pity you are limted
to six hourly images.

switched off.

images

I asked about adding 15 mins high resolution pictures to the Met Office
Aviation Briefing service as Jon suggested but I've still had no reply yet
:-(
best regards,
Alan

6 hourly intervals? - During the winter that amounts to ONE picture in
daylight per day made availble to the public - apalling, not really
very usesful unfortunately.

Yes, unfortunately that's the reality unless you want to pay for the extra images. £ signs rule again.

Rob,

Assuming you are stuck with 4 images per day, are they rigidly fixed at
00,06 12 and 18 hours? As someone else points out, that is just one
useful image per day except for a couple of months either side of the
summer solstice when the 06 one would be useful.

So would it ibe possible to have the 4 images per day at more useful
times, eg 08,11,14 and 17 hours? (local time, ie 07, 10, 13 and 16 UTC
during period of daylight saving time)

Jack

I agree that Bernard's are excellent but even so, there are really
mainly useful for looking at WHAT HAPPENED after the event. If you
want to know, say, just how rapidly that frontal cloud sheet is
approaching, then it's happened by the time you actually see the
pictures.

Dundee is even less helpful particularly if it's winter half of the
year and it's still dark at 0600 UTC.

So is the Met Office really planning to continue with then lower
resolution hourly satpics? I wrote to the met Office a little while
ago but no response so far.

Jack
