My fence has just been blown down and I'm in a relatively low risk
area in Kent. Very gusty!

Default Emergency Weather Warning on the BBC

I see tonight the BBC gave out an Emergency Weather Warning. I don't think I
have ever seen this before.
So maybe we could be in for a long night in some places. I have already been
round the garden and made sure movable objects are lashed down or stowed
away even though I am on the edge of the area in question.

I really do fear my already twice disintigrated greenhouse will come
crashing down again in the morning.
It really doesn't like gusts anything above 65 mph.
The calm before the storm will be very noticeable for us Paul, and winds
are unlikely to be significant until after midnight I reckon. It really will
arrive with a bang thereafter or possibly two if it moves up another gear
when the wind switches to a westerly.
All the best.
Alex.

My little house is made of wood

It creaks horribly during strong winds. I may be posting from Leadhills
by tomorrow...

I do hope not Steve. But I'd imagine your house may well be making noises
you've never heard previously in the morning.
Most of the houses built in this country can easily withstand the worst
nature can throw at them, minus a few roof slates.
I have friends who live on the second top floor of a 170ft tower block in
Motherwell. They say it's quite funny to watch the water in the toilet bowl
swash around from the sway - rather them than me!

Well, the exchange is in Leadhills anyway, so it's no big deal really.

One of our dogs won't be very happy about that, he hates the noises
during gales.

It seems quite well built, imported from Scandinavia we understand.

Ah, the blocks with the pretty patterns on top. We can see those from
the tops of the hills here.

It is quite common for the water in the toilet to swash around in the bowl
in strong winds in many of the 2 storey houses in Wokingham. The soil pipe
goes up through the roof to avoid the build up of obnoxious gases in the
pipe. The strong wind blowing in the pipe creates a pressure difference,
and the water moves around the bowl, indeed some water can be "sucked out" -
the level is often lower in the morning on breezy nights.
