I don't know of any hidden tricks (have mislaid the manual in any case) but it all seems pretty logical. Cross checks with numerous other reports such as metars, suggests that the level of accuracy is much better than the specification. Indeed, mine seems to be +/- 0.1 degrees C. Good battery life as I have only just had to replace the first set. A fine piece of kit. Mine lives outside but sheltered with a cover to protect from rain. One caution is that radiant heat from the hand can quickly upset the readings. If anything, the instrument is TOO sensitive. Jack |

Kind of difficult to get reading when temp is low. Heat from body quickly sends temp rising. I place mine outside with 30 sec recording to get temps. Was wondering if you could get hidden screens like for maintanance, eg. by turning on while holding one or more buttons etc. Other instruments, like gps, have "secret screens" for testing. |

DO NOT play with the Kestrell 4000 calibration - I did and I totally messed
it up . Eventually I was able to re cal it by using a hospital baby incubator or all things. I was able to set the RH to 25% and then 75% for an hour each - something that is just impossible to do - Also I was never able to find anyone in the UK who could do this for me. One thing that lets the 4000 down (Not sure if this is the same as for the 3000) is that the annemometer only reads up tp 87 mph - and this means that I have red linned it more than once during my hurricane antics. All the best Stuart Robinson "Fanceworth" wrote in message ... On Sun, 9 Jan 2005 21:56:41 -0000, Jack Harrison wrote: One caution is that radiant heat from the hand can quickly upset the readings. I finally got the baro back by adjusting to nearest slp from wx office with my altitude set. After some playing around and fine tuning it seems to be quite accurate now. Used procedure in manual. Look for shallow pressure gradient on wx map also. |
