I have to admit to being very surprised at the wind this evening here in
Dublin. Bar a late 16:00 weather warning about gales in the Irish Sea (F9) from the Irish Met Office, I had heard nothing in previous forecasts to indicate it would be this windy/gusty. Maybe I just didn't listen...enough. Anyway according to Dublin Airport readings we're experiencing westerly winds of 38mph (from tomorrow I'll have to quote km/hr!) and gusts to 49mph at 19:00. Suffice to say it's enough to have caused some minor damage to the front of the house with a tile and some lead flashing falling down. Was there any late development in conditions that brought about this spell of windy weather or should I pay more attention to the forecast!? (It's gusting stronger as I write! I'm now on alert!!) ![]() "JCW" wrote in message ... Ireland is converting all measurements to metric, and I mean ALL, from January 20th. Expect to see any Met wind readings in km instead of miles. It's playing havoc on the roads what with the rounding up resulting in reduced road speeds...and this on some of our more safe roads! HGV restricted to 50 mph and double-decker buses to 40mph everywhere as I recall. HTH. .... indeed yes! I suppose it is inevitable and no doubt we'll (UK) have to join sometime - will have to practice thinking of cloud bases in metres.
