G4 magnetic storm in progress. Aurora should be visible quite far south, but
cloud cover in the SW will restrict my viewing the met office webcams.

I was out about 20 minutes ago having a look - nice clear sky, but the
moon's a bit of a problem. No sign of any activity.

Have a look now, Steve; a red curtain from NW to N (difficult to see
further without going outside) extending up to the zenith.

Yes, there is an obvious one on this cam at Aboyne:

Yes indeed. We've been out for a while and Mrs L has been taking photos.
Not very good, I'm afraid, as we have no experience of taking aurora
pics, but we'll put the better ones on the web shortly.

Just come in after seeing the posts, I'd forgotten about that rather
large X class flare... As you say Steve nice clear sky but the moon is
rather bright and high it'll be a while before that sets if it does
before day break. B-(

No sign of any activity.

I wasn't out for long, -1.3C, so eyes hadn't fully dark adapted but
the northern horizon from WNW to ENE was definately lighter than I
would expect and I did see some vuague lighter patches about 40 deg
and just W of N.

The Kp is 8 according to http://www.sec.noaa.gov/rt_plots/kp_3d.html.
The Bz is north unfortunately. ADEC has sent me an email alert that
arrived at 1956, the York magnetometer has just started to go a bit
wild, expect an alert from that some time (they have been *very* slow
in arriving recently).
