Yeserdays 1400 humidity Vale of York 35% Dewpoint 11C. Does this sound like
a sticky day? Can anyone tell me why it felt so oppressive (it was fairly breezy). I know today will be fresher, but I'm not sure the humidty or dewpoints will reflect this. |

I know today will be fresher, but I'm not sure the humidty or dewpoints will reflect this. Having mentioned this before, I have been making a note, this year, of days which feel sticky and otherwise similar days which do not. Thus far, I can find no common factor between the days which feel sticky, other than that the perception of such a day has little to do with the humidity. So, I cannot answer your question, but can confirm the experience which has happened three times this year at my location. -- Gianna |

I know today will be fresher, but I'm not sure the humidty or dewpoints will reflect this. I've often wondered how accurate my dewpoints/humidity are. I'm not so far from the Vale of York here on the Wolds, but at 1400 yesterday my dewpoint was 16.0 and humidity 64%. Today it does feel a lot fresher and a few moments ago dew point was 9.0 with humidity 41%. How much does humidity vary in a reltively local area? -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |

I know today will be fresher, but I'm not sure the humidty or dewpoints will reflect this. A humidity of 35% and a dewpoint of 11°C means the temperature is 28°C, which was not mentioned. Those are not oppressive conditions really, but the temperature is quite high and what it feels like may depend on what you are doing. Today will certainly feel fresher simply because the temperature is lower. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

It's easy to forget that water loss is a major factor in long hot summers. We seldon have enough opportunity to gain the experience and keep it in mind for the next time. Still though there may be relationship to the aches and pains gout, rheumatism and arthritis sufferers feel when there is a thundery spell of the right type. |

Well the temperature was 26 and I was sat under a tree with relatives after a wedding, in the shade though it was rather cloudy, but it felt awful to me. But then I had to stay in all afternoon today until 5 pm by which time I just found it OK in the shade. |
