uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged.

There's an interesting article in the "Times" today which suggests that
recent global warming is a result of changes in the amount of energy
emitted from the Sun since 1970.

Apparently, studies have shown that the Sun has increased its radiant
energy output by 0.05% per decade since 1970.

When I find the article online, I will post it here, unless anyone
finds it first.

May be worth a debate on a quiet Bank Holiday!

16C in Coventry, no GW this BH Monday:-)

Thanks for that link - it is nice to see the alternative causes being explored.
Meanwhile of course, the opportunity to save on the electricity and gas bill is
not one to be missed (-:

17C in Peterhead. No BH Monday this GW.
Or as my diary says 'BankHoliday, UK (not Scotland)' ... not Uk then ... sigh

I haven't read the article but remember that the data from the 1970's
onto the (at least) early eighties was to say the least suspect. What
with badly calibrated satellites and lost computer codecs.

And who is to say that the modern measures are accurate?

Nah, I don't think I'll bother reading it. Let fools debate the true
reality. I'd rather see the world the way it used to be.

Except that you spend it on running a/c instead...

big smile In north-eastern Scotland? Not in my life-time.

Anyway, I meant the savings generated by reducing emissions, rather than as a
result of warmer weather.
