================================================== ==============================
=== This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may unfold next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy and wish to share freely with others. ================================================== ============================== === Summary valid for Sunday 08/10/06 to Saturday 14/10/06 TOI (time of issue) Friday 06/10/06 1900 UK local time This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX, and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten High confidence that the week will be dominated by warm southwest/south or southeasterly winds. Very little frost. A lot of dry weather in eastern areas but more cloudy, wetter and windier in the west, especially in the first half of next week. Moderate confidence in detail but lower confidence for a build of pressure from the east later. Sunday - SE England, E.England and most of Scotland mainly dry and rather cloudy with strengthening south or southwest winds. Remaining areas more cloudy with occasional rain and drizzle and fresh to strong south or southwest winds. Temperatures 15C in Scotland and up to 20C in SE England in any sunshine. A wet night on Sunday night with gales in exposed parts followed by a fine day with sunshine in the south on Monday but windy further north with sunny intervals and showers. Temperatures above normal. Tuesday looks like a fine autumn day with spells of sunshine and mostly light to moderate southerly winds. Temperatures up to 18C in the south and 14C over Scotland. Possibly some rain spreading into western areas in the evening and strengthening winds. Wednesday at the moment looks like being rather cloudy with some showers, especially in the south - low confidence though. Winds generally turning light and rather variable but mainly southerly. Temperatures above average. Thursday looks like being similar to Wednesday but with most showers in the SW. By Friday pressure will be building from the east and dry weather with sunny spells looks like pushing westwards. Temperatures staying above normal though despite a strengthening southeast wind. Still a chance of showers, mainly in the south. John, I live here and I know where I live and it is inside the Dartmoor National Park on the eastern edge. Hay Tor summit at 457m asl is just 0.5 miles from my house. Rippon Tor summit at 474m asl is about 1 mile away. Bovey Tracey is some 900 feet down the hill and just over 3 miles away. 1000s of visitors come up onto Dartmoor each summer and all of them seem to reckon that Hay Tor is Dartmoor. Yes I admit it is not the high moor and I never said it was, so chill out please. less than 10 miles from Bovey Tracey. ...Not exactly High Willhays, is it Will? I can confirm that Haytor is definitely on/in Dartmoor, it is within the Dartmoor National Park and quite high up on the moor as well; I know as I have been to Haytor many times. Check your geography before the sarcasm. If you haven't got anything nice to say or post then maybe it's better you don't post at all, enuff said. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 80 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

My memories of France are that Paris is a very angry place, but that the further you are away from it the more relaxed everyone becomes. I wonder if it's an effect of living in a big city, as I suspect that a similar effect applies in Britain and in the US. -- John Hall "Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong."
