This morning between 0830 and 0910 it recorded 14.2mm rain with a rainfall
rate of 365.8!!! I was stood beside it for part of the time and there was no obvious reason for it. Everything else appears to be correct - any ideas anyone?? -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |

Everything else appears to be correct - any ideas anyone?? Gheckos occasionally take up residence in mine... though not since I blocked off the access holes in the base. Never known a ghecko to be quite so active though... spurious readings of 1.5mm or so are more typical. Might be worth checking for wildlife -- otherwise I'd suspect an intermittent short circuit in the micro switch on the tipper, or associated leads and circuitry. OTOH when we see rates like that in the tropics it's usually because it's raining. ![]() -- John H |

Perhaps the reed switch is getting past its best? -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

Everything else appears to be correct - any ideas anyone?? I had a problem like this with mine and it turned out to be a defective ISS board. Mine somehow had gotten damp I think, because there were two places on the board which had black corrosion seeping into the edge of the board. Fortunately mine was under warranty. If yours is not the reed switch or wild life then check the ISS board for signs of corrosion. Worth making sure that the ISS board cover is properly seated with no gaps in the seal and that both screws are done up tight. Stuart |

Being completely non-technical I have no idea what they mean, but I'll attempt tp check them out anyway. -- David Mitchell, 70m amsl, Langtoft, East Riding of Yorkshire. |
