**Note: Wetterzentrale is down today, hence this "old fashioned" analysis
instead** Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0526z, 13 December 2006. The outlook is more settled than recently, with high pressure to the south or SE of the UK. Longer term it looks likely that high pressure will settle over central and southern Europe, with SW'lies for much of the UK. ECMWF: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...mwf/ecmwf.html A large high lies to the south with low pressure near Iceland. WSW'lies are the result, followed by NW'lies at T+144 as the low moves SE'wards over the North Sea. A ridge builds to the west and on day 7 it moves over the UK, bringing northerlies to England and Wales with light winds elsewhere. MetO: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ukmo/pslv.html Unavailable at time of issue. GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm The UK lies under WNW'lies with a ridge to the west and a large high to the SW. The ridge moves over the UK at T+144, leading to westerlies for Scotland and WNW'lies elsewhere. By day 7 the winds become SW'lies for all as high pressure moves over France. SW'lies then persist out to day 10 as high pressure builds over central Europe. GEM: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da.../gem/pslv.html A southerly flow covers the UK with a low to the west. JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows a ridge and light winds across much of the UK, the exception being NE Scotland which lies under NW'lies. The ridge moves eastwards at T+144, introducing southerlies for all and by day 7 the winds become westerlies, with high pressure over France and Iberia. NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS brings westerlies across the UK with high pressure to the south. A trough lies to the west at T+144 with southerlies over the UK. |

writes **Note: Wetterzentrale is down today, hence this "old fashioned" analysis instead** Just like to record that I prefer this old fashioned approach - but then I am probably not a genuine weather enthusiast. The "new" approach requires far too much work from me. But grateful that you go to all this trouble everyday - many thanks Darren. -- PK Remove the xtra y from my name in the email address if replying |
