Scotland and Northern Ireland will see the worst of the weather, but Wales and parts of England will also see very squally weather with gusts of 60 m.p.h. There is concern for New Years Eve, particularly over Northern Ireland and Scotland with further very strong winds forecast. The advice is to keep up-to-date with the weather forecast and travel information. As well as strong winds the marked change in the weather will also bring periods of heavy rain and squally showers." -- Dave |

Apart from the Isle of Man. Perhaps they forgot to colour that bit in. Wolf! Wolf! Quite. The same thing happened last month when severe gales were forecast for the *whole* of the country. Result? Some areas got a bit of a battering, NW England was very windy but nothing of nore and the rest odf the country was wondering what the fuss was about. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

Perhaps they forgot to colour that bit in. Is the Met Office responsible for forecasting for the Isle of Man? It's not part of the UK (it is a Crown Dependency if Wikipedia is to be believed). -- John Hall "Distrust any enterprise that requires new clothes." Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) |

That doesn't stop NW tonight weather including the IOM in their forecasts. So as far as BBC regions are concerned, it's part of the UK. They *do* pay their licence fee there, don't they? -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

The IOM Met Office have issued their own warnings: http://www.gov.im/infocentre/weather.aspx Interesting to see my neck of the woods mentioned. Just to answer a few points raised, we are a crown dependency and not a part of the UK. We have our own Met Office at Ronaldsway, and very good they are too. Pretty accurate forecasts and always willing to talk to a small boater like me about sea/weather conditions round the island. http://www.manxradio.com/weather.aspx As for BBC NW Tonight, we do pay TV licences but there's been lots of moans that we get nothing in return. Since the moaning started it's been noted that NW Tonight do give us a mention. As does the occasional national forecast these days. We get some cracking gales too, which never seem to get noticed anywhere else. After a very wild 3/4 weeks it's freshening up again tonight, recorded a southerly gust of 48mph in the last hour at the house. Though we are amongst the hills and it tends to blow a bit more round here. HTH. Cheers -- Alan Comish Sulby Glen |

While the early warning covers all of the UK you need to view the risk of disruption map along with the text.
