Had spent wed eve in Mid Wales travelling back on Thurs afternoon - Not the
worst I can remember in the last few years but still very pretty.. http://www.weatherpictures.co.uk/crossgates1_1024.jpg The Girls always get a look in !! ( Crossgates , Powys ) http://www.weatherpictures.co.uk/eardisley1_1024.jpg Just outside Eardisley in Herefordshire - had stuck well to trees here. http://www.weatherpictures.co.uk/radnor_drifts_1024.jpg This is always the place to be and is notorious for drifting. The fields feed snow onto the road long after it has stopped falling . The A44 on the top of the Radnor Forrest , Powys Mid Wales. http://www.weatherpictures.co.uk/ple...t_entrance.jpg It looked like the driver of this car had had a lucky escape just missing the wall.....a reminder of the downside of this lovely winter wonderland. If that was Thursday, I daren't think what Friday's snow looked like:-) -- Mike Tullett - Coleraine 55.13°N 6.69°W posted 10/02/2007 10:44:50 GMT |

The A44 on the top of the Radnor Forrest , Powys Mid Wales. I drove across here on Boxing Day, 1963 in my Mini Van in, probably, 15 cms of snow and blizzard conditions. This was the start of the much quoted cold spell. I left Basingstoke, Hampshire, just after lunch to drive to Aberporth, Cardiganshire. When I left Basingstoke it was lightly snowing out of a blue sky. By the time I reached Gloucester conditions were very bad and Radnor Forest was horrendous in the dark. Many times I was on full opposite lock and reached Aberystwyth with a great feeling of relief. The coast road, the A487, was clear of snow and I was able to cruise at my normal 50 mph. When I stopped to clear the snow from the front of the van I discovered, to my horror, that the road was a sheet of ice and can only conclude that the snow bound A44 had honed my slippery road driving skills to the point that I was automatically correcting for the icy A487. I slowed down for the remaining few miles. The Minivan was my first new car and was a delight... -- Alan White Twenty-eight miles NW of Glasgow, overlooking Lochs Long and Goil in Argyll, Scotland.
