Default Tornadoes in Dudley - Videos

Hi,
This is my first post to this group so apologies if I'm not following
any protocols...

My 11-yr old niece was in school in Netherton (between Dudley and
Halesowen) when they had to dive under the desks as a funnel
cloud/tornado they were watching suddenly turned and headed for them
across the playground ! Tiles were lost from houses in Molyneux Road
(see map). The school is just to the West, in Norwich Road.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...8582&z=15&om=1

Here is footage taken from just a few streets away from my house
(possibly the same vortex that visited the school as it's not that far
away):
http://www.expressandstar.co.uk/2007...rnado-footage/

And here's one filmed in Tipton:
http://www.itvlocal.com/central/news..._26&void=73557

Check itvlocal.com for more vids as there's bound to be nationwide
footage, thanks to mobile phone cameras.

I try to watch every storm but this was the most intense I've seen in
all my 34 years - strikes every few seconds, a ground strike about 200
yards from where I was watching, hail, the most rainfall I've ever seen
in a given period, and a ridiculously long drive home through flooded
roads and overheating cars !

Bostin' ! (as we say in Dudley).

Your posting technique is fine.

Very impressive videos - you are lucky to see them. Despite both
professional and amateur observing over 40 years, I have yet to see
one.

Comical footage. My favourite bit has to be "Move you're arse" delivered in
our great Black Country style. Did the vortex actually touch down? I cannot
tell from the second video. I don't wish to be one of those nit-picking
people, but unless it actually touches down it is not a tornado, simply a
funnel cloud.

I saw a funnel cloud in the distance from where i was located, and the
Cumulonimbus Anvil from which it spawned which looked to be quite large.
However, i did not record any hail all day during the storm. I did record
over 78mm of rain today, which is now increasing with the remnants of the
system pushing through now. Flooding has been a problem in Dudley all day
with many roads flooded in the area and buildings also feeling the force. I
already know of one school which is to be closed to pupils on Monday because
of flooding.

Lightning wise, the storm detector at its peak was signalling around 10
strikes per minute. A car on my street was hit along with a building around
200m away. I've also heard reports that a few buildings in Wolverhampton
City Centre were also struck causing them to loose power.

So an eventful day.

Mike

www.dudleyweather.co.uk - needs updating, i will re-add the pictures i had
of the storm in 2004 which gave us the very large hail.

The tornado touched down alright ripping roof tiles from my dads and
my house in Cradley RD Dudley sending them crashing into our cars thru
my dads sunroof makin' a rite mess and bostin the windscreen on my
car... i had just stepped out of the house to fetch the kids from
Netherbrook school when i noticed the high winds and storm picking up
pace so i turned and went straight back into the house. As it happens
the two paths i could have taken to exit my house would have resulted
in me being cut in half by the flying roof objecs (UFrO's) wow man,
think i had a gaurdian angel lookin after me that day and am here now
to tell the tale.........................
