Very significant storm as I left Southampton on the train this
afternoon. Torrential rain with significant deterioration in visibility - hard to tell, but probably down to 100m or less. Hail too. Many lightning strikes, mainly to the southeast over the docks and probably the west of the Isle of Wight. Covered a large area too - the storm was moving NE and I was going SW on the train and it was torrential from Southampton Central to just beyond Ashurst (probably about 10 minutes). Large areas of standing water in the fields/forest west of Ashurst. Nice and dry in Bournemouth though - doesn't seem to have been anything at all here! -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

Had some really loud bangs and heavy rain here (just N of Portsmouth) Halfway between the locations of the last two posts, here in West Fareham, we had the dark cloud (anvil) and the sound of distant thunder from all directions but no measurable rain... only a trace and the grass is already dry again. Just goes to show the localised nature of such activity and how hard it is to forecast it for any particular place. -- Dave Fareham (West) |
