When I post a [WR] which contains a figure for a day temperature extreme
in a given period I describe that as the 'highest/lowest temperature 'for that period. When I post a [WR] which contains a figure for a day temperature mean extreme in a given period I describe that as the 'warmest/coldest day' for that period. Others, I notice, describe a day with a day temperature extreme in a given period as the 'warmest/coldest day 'for that period. In other words, the maximum day temperature, using my phraseology, may not give rise to the warmest day even though it may be the highest temperature. -- Alan White Mozilla Firefox and Forte Agent. A pleasant warm *dry* day with lots of sunshine and a max of 18.6°C :-) Last time I asked this question nobody responded so things are moving in the right direction. Two days:- Day 1. Max 24°C Min 8°C Mean 16°C Day 2. Max 22°C Min 16°C Mean 19°C I would describe Day 2 as being warmer than Day 1 because it has a higher mean than Day 1. Others would describe Day 1 as being warmer than Day 2 because it has a higher maximum than Day 2. Which is correct? -- Alan White Mozilla Firefox and Forte Agent.
