Heavy thunderstorm has recently developed over the Isle of Wight and
is now overhead here in West Fareham, seems to be heading North East. Frequent lightning flashes, heavy thunder very close by, very heavy rain as i write. -- Dave Fareham (West) |

Shows up very well on Isle of Wight weather ... http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm It's all over now and the sun is out through breaks in the cloud. Heavy yes, prolonged, no. The total amount of rainfall I have recorded for this one event is 12.6mm. -- Dave Fareham (West) |

Patches of low CU fractus in all directions. Thunder was first detected to the SE at 1330Z, where several distant rumbles were heard. Tracking N or NE, the storm is now (1415Z) out of earshot. Nil rainfall during the thunder episode here. How much did you receive? Sounds quite a splashing to me. Nigel (Romsey, Hampshire) |

Nigel (Romsey, Hampshire) .... been very quiet here in East Dorset - a 'heavy' atmosphere, with sporadic, mostly light rainfall from medium level cloud (and none of that looked particularly 'threatening'), which has produced 0.3 mm since 09Z, most of it between 1230 & 1500Z. Currently OVC high-base As, with patchy Ac underneath & hardly a breath of wind. Martin. -- Martin Rowley West Moors, East Dorset (UK): 17m (56ft) amsl Lat: 50.82N Long: 01.88W NGR: SU 082 023 |

As I write this (21:20) http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm shows a huge storm covering most of Belgium, yet http://www.blitzortung.de/ shows it over Kent and Sussex. My b-i-l in Hastings says he has a storm at the moment so it appears that the IOW station is over-estimating the distances. |

Judging by reports from friends of hail in Folkestone and lightning and my reading of torrential in Canterbury, it went in that kind of direction :-) -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

Guess what time I walked to Asda in Bournemouth? ;-) I did notice that even though it was raining (albeit slightly), the position of the sun could still be discerned and you could definitely feel warmth from it. -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |
