Cyprus is having a heatwave at the moment (44C in Nicosia yesterday)
and unusually, it seems that not only are the temperatures very high but also the humidity is as well. Paphos airport yesterday reported a max 32C and a DP of 29C. Apart from India in pre-monsoon condtions, I have never seen a DP so high in Europe. Today it is just as hot and already at 8am (UTC) it is 32C with a DP of 28C and RH 79%. It must be feeling absolutely horrendous with such high humidities; glad I'm not there! ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon |

We were in Paphos, August 11th 1999. The day of the total eclipse. The heat
and humidity was horrendous. So much so, that we vowed never to visit Cyprus again in August. What made things worse was that the apartment was air conditioned and even opening the window when we got up in the morning made your clothes literally grab you. The only place to escape the discomfort was in the pool. now we visit in October, still very warm but more pleasant. Regards. Len. "Nick G" wrote in message oups.com... I was surprised how cool it was (mid-20s mostly). The only place to escape the discomfort was in the pool. now we visit in October, still very warm but more pleasant. Not true - you should have gone up to the Troodos mountains. We even found some real flowing water up there! http://www.jstottphotography.com/photo.php?s=5550 -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

Went in mid August 1999, the first 4 days were unbearable. Stayed in Paphos and the airport recorded 34-36C over those first few days. The humidity was quite intolerable, with a southerly wind and the air full of dust. We escaped the heat in the Troodos Mountains. In fact we drove right up to the top of the ski lift, and my wife found it to be a little too chilly for her liking! We usually go in October now, nice and warm, but a little unsettled at times.
