At 2050Z:
Wisps of quite shallow fog are swirling around on the dew covered fields around Romsey under a starry sky, although cloud amounts have recently increased slightly. If this trend continues, the fog may well disperse. The fog was still there this morning (7am) - particularly dense east of
Brockenhurst with visibility less than 50m in places (although hard to judge from a train doing 90mph!). Jonathan Still misty at 8:30 am driving from Wimborne to Ringwood. Now, 2 pm, bright sunshine and light 3 octa clouds. Can any one explain why morning mist and fog is more likely in the autumn than at other times of year? Cheers, Alastair. |

It may be because the ground is relatively warm still and, pressure high, with little wind ( nothing here in a Dorset valley), which always seems a feature at some stage in autumn R |
