Have just seen the latest Met Office offering which comes as no surprise.

And as usual, the Met Office has worded it precariously, neither going too
far in any direction.

Absolute bloody waste of time, another government department that is so non
committal in everything it says. we can all deduct that it could be warm, if
not cold, it could be wet, if not dry.
Back to the seaweed, at least it makes a decision!

Dear GKN ,or may I call you G ?,I think you will find that the weather this
winter will turnout very much as their forecast ,nondescript and boring with
just few blips.
In other words just like all the rest since the late '80s.
So what's wrong with that ?

Merry Christmas

What do you expect them to say if they're not sure? Their
assessment is probably the best available both in the forecast itself
and in the low confidence level displayed. They are being honest and
have a professional duty not to plump for one way or the other simply
on a hunch. If you want "a decision" go for a brass-necked charlatan
(no names) or an astrologer or other magic merchant. You won't be
better informed. You just have to accept that the coming winter's
weather is unknowable to any useful degree of accuracy and the Met
Office is stating just that.

Plainly even medium range forecasting is effectively useless.

The MetO winter forcast may well be quite accurate in that it call for
precisely the same type of winter as has become the normal. So unless the
weather does something very unusual they will pat themselves on the back and
claim they know what they are doing.

I would suggest that there are many members of this forum who could and
already have forecast another bland winter.

So if an enthusiast using no more than a wet finger out the bed room window
and no small measure of intuition can equal the MetO forecast, why do we
bother with the MetO long range guesscast?

Usual ignorant nonsense to expect from a top-poster. Try reading it again.

I suppose it's about time I got round to updating mine since it's 6 months
since I issued it! My excuse for missing it is total demoralisation after
summer F/C debacle.
