Well only a sprinkling 1cm, but full nevertheless and counts as a
snow lying day :-) Lane is icy and snow covered but treated roads fine. Min. -2.7C but now above freezing at 0850 and rising quickly in warm Devon sunshine, so snow won't last long :-( Great walk outside in these conditions though and still some Cbs running across northern moor. Dog loved skidding on the extensive ice. High moor shining white with what looks like a couple of inches or so on Cosdon Beacon (over 500m asl) ( Okehampton way) and about an inch or so on Hameldown. OK about an inch less than I expected at home but the locals will be happy as it is at least white and pretty. Go away sun! LOL I'm happy. Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

![]() A sleet & soft hail shower this morning but now, quite a lot of Sc. No snow lying here in Okehampton but the moor (above 1000' amsl) has a good covering - looks quite thick on Yes Tor. Thanks for that David. Was tempted to drive across for a stroll up to the summit
but swmbo had plenty of jobs for me to get on with today :-) All snow has melted now at my altitude and up to as far as I can see from my window. Even the Haldon hills above Teignmouth (260m asl) had a sprinkling this morning. Will take a better recce later. Now at 1350 temp. +4.8C Max. +5.7C and DP +0.9C Wind is picking up quickly from the south and bar is now falling at 1015 hPa and it feels a bit chilly outside. Tomorrow's walk on the high moor from Two Bridges looks decidely parky with a gale force SSE'ly and driving sleet expected in a temperature circa 4C. Ho hum! Back to my jobs now :-( Will -- "David Naylor" wrote in message ... A sleet & soft hail shower this morning but now, quite a lot of Sc. Just got back from a walk over to Rough Tor and a few others. Very wet underfoot made the going a bit hard at times. There was a dusting of snow on the higher parts with a few lovely icicles on the granite boulders of the tors. You had to be well protected from the brisk wind which was numbing. I took my glove off to take a photo and it quickly became numb within just a few seconds; a significant wind-chill to say the least. Weather changed quite quickly from bright conditions to mist and rain at around 15:30 with a strong southerly picking up. Glad to get back to the car which was parked at Two Bridges as the weather was really closing in by then. Noticed there were cars still parked along the road, a few still out on the moors in the fading light, cloud and rain; rather them than me! Now back in the tropics. I see we had a max of 8.6C here in the Otter Valley today and nearly 6 hours of sunshine and just a gentle breeze. Rather different to the conditions on the high moors! Currently (19:00), 6.0C, RH 82%, DP 3.2C, 1012.4 hPa (F), Wind 4 mph S. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Hi Nick, sounds like you had a nice wintry walk, which is good.
We went from Two Bridges today in fact up to Crow Tor and then an 8 mile loop back. Very very wet underfoot with horizontal heavy rain and gale force winds, dry spells too thank goodness. Temperature was mild at 5-6C but it felt cold. Had 5 layers on including two layers of waterproofs and gloves. Found some very tiny patches of snow in some gullies above 500m but all snow has gone now, back to normal boggy soggy conditions. It's at wet times like this I dream of 20C heat and sunshine!
