Andrew Neill - a respected journalist - stated on his BBC lunchtime show on,
I think, Thursday, that "Average global temperatures have fallen in each of the last ten years by an average of 0.3 degrees C". He quoted four sources including NASA. Comments from knowledgable subscribers would be appreciated. Eric |

If what he says is true the temperature will have fallen 3°C since 1998, indicating the onset of something rather fearsome and what's more taking the graph right off scale low. There are few numerate journalists and he would not seem to be one of them. That would be ridiculously incorrect. So I presume that something else is meant, but I'm baffled as to what. The average of post-1998 record is, estimated by eye, about 0.1 degrees below the 1998 figure. The fall between 1998 and 2007 is about 0.15 degrees. If you select 1995 or 2000 as your starting point instead, there is a rise of over 0.15 degrees. (Interannual variation in temperatures is of comparable magnitude.) -- Stewart Robert Hinsley |

He quoted four sources including NASA. Andrew Neill is only respected by himself. There have been two years that were warmer than 1998 - 2005 and 2007. Taking running means to smooth out the graph shows me that temperatures are still rising and the rate of that rise is 0.25C per decade. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks., UK.
