Default Heavy rain, then snow in West Yorkshire

Can anyone remember, I think late sixties, when it absolutely poured
with rain during the night, and in the morning there was about six
inches of lying snow? I remember my utter astonishment.

My astonishement was that the ground was awash with water, completely
soaking, and yet the snow "took".
