Barometer at MSL reached 1036.8 mbar here this morning. This is the
highest in September on local records back to 1949, with the sole exception of 1039.6 mbar recorded on 19 September 1986. -- Stephen Burt Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire |

You are ignoring the important issue that the Lows are not particularly low at the same time. And as a side order: Thr deepening, dart-boarding Icelandic Low will drag another low up from the southern reaches of the Atlantic chart: http://www.cuckney.pwp.blueyonder.co...r/Dorridge.htm And then we will have another Mexican quake. Maybe a Mid Atlantic Ridge. Something to fit the sequence, whatever. |

Stephen ... the highest synoptic report I've seen (3-hrly intervals only) is 1038.3 at Fylingdales at 06z on the 26th. This is, of course, significantly short of the 1986 record, and also of the eastern Scotland anticyclone of early-Sep 2004. Philip (1037.2mbar at Whipsnade at 0900 which coincided pretty much with the high point on the barograph trace) |

My comment referred to long-term local records (i.e. central southern England) rather than a national scale extreme - apologies if I did not make this clear in my initial post. -- Stephen Burt Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire |
