Fairly confident now that the predicted March cold spell will begin on
Monday with rain gradually turning to snow as the week progresses. I was wrong about it coming from the east it now looks like it will come from very cold air from Greenland getting embroiled into an Atlantic low with the upper trough then sitting over UK. This has happened before this winter and the ensuing cold spell was not brief. The false Spring is coming to an end and for some it will be a welcome relief no doubt from greyness. Ciao, :-) Will -- |

Ciao, :-) Will -- Will, this has made my day... the "false spring" has been nothing like spring in my part of the South East. The grey has been almost unrelenting and the lack of sun has made it feel cold. At least with a mobile south-westerly we would have seen glimpses of the sun - which is badly needed to dry out the sodden ground here - and bring on the struggling bulbs and other plants. Good riddance, I say |

Best news I've heard Will and I would have said that whatever the change as long as it's a change from this muck! Anything is better than this continuing gloom and mist with temps never getting much above 8c, it's dire!! Graham |

Ciao, :-) Will ----------------------- " I was wrong about it coming from the East" - good for you Will, wish more could accept that happens and not try and claim success because it is say, generally cold a couple of weeks either side of what they said and by a completely different mechanism! As Scott says, it's not been pleasant here. Cheers, Dave -- |

Good riddance, I say Absolutely seconded; it's been dreary to say the least - and the temperatures have been uninteresting too, except in so far as their uninterestingness is interesting! Over the last week, every single day maximum has been between 10.1°C and 12.5°C, while with one single exception[1] every single night minimum has been between 5.3°C and 7.8°C. [1] Last Thursday night: min -0.3°C. What a night that was! ![]() -- Bewdley, Worcs. ~90m asl. |

Good riddance, I say I have found the last several days most pleasant. It's not windy and not cold, the nights have been notably mild and the gas consumption has reduced markedly. The daffodils are standing up again and the scent of the daphne spills around the garden. The roads are nor covered in sticky black car-rot, the sun shines every other day and everyone seems cheerier. Assuredly it will change but hopefully not back to the dreadful weather of a few weeks back when we had well over an inch of snow down here in the Deep South. If the weather is boring then it's in the same way that the pavement is boring - time to look elsewhere for exitement, perhaps time to re-catalogue the matchbox collection. Tom |

On the other hand - on the day it snowed heavily in Blackheath, I don't think I've seen such a cheery population! Admittedly the slushy mucky end to a cold spell is a bit deflating ! Richard |

Brilliant - hoping for an end to the grey as I'd love to take a peek at Comet Lulin, but all I've had is cloud cover for days ![]() |
