Default Northwood FAX charts

For many years of picking these up on short wave (mainly prior to
internet) , I see they are now available on the net:

http://www.cincfleetwoc.com/HF-Fax/N...rixLatestZData

Ive just picked the link up from the weathercharts.org.

They have a 00z +120hr chart (like the old 12Z +132 that used to be
available), but looking at last nights 12z +120 compared to the issued
UKMetO Fax there is a difference.

Could someone clarify that these charts are raw UKMO Model prediction
with the fronts drawn on ? i.e. without influence from other models ?

So nice to see them without the black interference lines!

Thanks

Phil

I meant to mention that they have a 'thickness' chart on there too which
may be useful for the winter season!

I am not sure, guess I could ask. The ones issued by the Ops Centre
are generated by the Deputy Chief forecaster, based on the GM and
modified via Metmorph if evidence from other output, ensembles etc is
sufficient to do so and as such represent what is felt to be the most
probable forecast evolution. The 'fax' charts are then drawn from the
modified fields.

Phil, I did a quick comparison and it does appear to be unmodified GM.
The same output can be seen here to T+72

Jeez, I've not seen a Northwood chart in years - weren't they purely
forecaster (rather than computer) generated product at one time, hand
drawn isobars 'n' all, long after everybody else switched to computer
fax product?

Still got some of these from my HFFAX and WUNClub / Short Wave Magazine
days, was always dual path propogation here on all freqs and could
always get Halifax, Marshfield, Roosevelt Roads, Rota or Keflavik(?) better.

Changed days indeed.

Thanks Jon - I think that was the response a while ago - just something
else to look at when it gets 'interesting'!
