Default Interesting flight path

I was quite alarmed yesterday when after flying over Oman, UAE & Qatar
we then went over Kuwait City and then over the centre of Iraq, passing
Baghdad to the east then over Mosul, then taking a sharp left over
Turkey, ringing the border of Syria. I was quite relieved we were at
38,000 ft. Also worryingly close to Iran. I guess times are changing
slowly for the better.

Yeap, same on Friday (DBX-BHX) - didn't acutally see Baghdad, but did fly
right above it according to the inflight map. Also worthy to note that on
the Dubai-Delhi part the flight avoided Iran and was routed over Pakistan -
so Pakistan:India relationships must not be too bad at the moment!

Not at all odd really – they all want the revenue from navigation
(overflying) charges.

I did not realise Iraqi airspace was open to overflights. Good job the
current bunch of "insurgents" don't have Stingers, or say their
Iranian (ex Russian ) equivalent. Says a lot really when they rely on
IEDS made from 2 planks of wood and a couple of bits of metal and a
battery.......

I'm not sure what the "ceiling" of a Stinger missile is, but I'm pretty
sure that it's well below the 25,000ft+ that a cruising airliner will be
flying at.

I flew back from Delhi last year over Afghanistan. Fabulous scenery, but
what worried me was not stingers or whatever but "friendly fire" from the
US.
