uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

The UK and continental Europe could be gripped by more frequent cold
winters in the future as a result of low solar activity, say researchers. They identified a link between fewer sunspots and atmospheric conditions that "block" warm, westerly winds reaching Europe during winter months. But they added that the phenomenon only affected a limited region and would not alter the overall global warming trend. The findings appear in the journal Environmental Research Letters. Lots more about it at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8615789.stm |

It is an interesting paper. See if the UK can buck the GW trend! |

Article in New Scietist this week too: http://www.newscientist.com/article/...pe-on-ice.html I'm not sure at all about the giant kink in the jetstream that is illustrated in the article, over the UK.That didn't happen this winter: the jetstream went south and stayed there from early Dec to about now, with some movement, granted, but no protracted kink in its path. |
