The current (0700) visible satelite image of the UK shows southern England
covered in what appears to be contrails. If this is what they are, then I've never seen quite that many show up like this on what is a fairly low resolution weather photograph... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_vis.html Regards... David Allan. |

Many, many contrails, a higher concentration that I've seen before at approx 5.30 this morning looking NE from Oswestry, I think they were heading South, from Manchester, Liverpool and all airports North. I agree: undoubtedly, there is a good deal of 'natural' cloud in and rearward of the upper trough axis, but when I looked out this morning (~0500Z), the sky was covered with newly-formed contrails, and we now have complete cover of what looks to be the result of those + of course the aforementioned tropospheric cirriform cloud. A marked contrast to a few days ago before Willie Walsh pointed his aircraft at London and said .... " I'm coming in "! All looks to be tied in with the direction I would take if I were an Icelandic ash cloud. I suppose if I was an airline though, I'd come down in favour of ash deposits and passenger cheques than safety and returning passenger's deposits. And if I was an airliner, I'd be spitting feathers too. What larks! |
