After a week of fairly average temperatures the warmth returned today and
the temperature climbed back into the 20s with a max of 22.5°C in the prolonged sunshine this afternoon. It was a reasonably mild night too with a min of 13.2°C. Only 24.0 mm of rain this month so far though with the weakening September sun, the grass is staying resolutely green and growing fast at the moment even though the soils are again, quite dry. And the sunshine levels have recovered after a few cloudier days last week (13th - 15th), nearly 10 hours today brings the total to date to 142 hours. So far, this has generally been a quiet, settled and soft September. Maybe it will lead into a warm, settled and sunny October, with a glorious autumnal leaf-change. All trees still green and summer-like here at the moment. Best autumn colour last year didn't occur until the end of October and into early November. The latest I've known was in 2005 when some trees were still in full green leaf at the end of November. A calm, warm and clear evening. (19:10), 18.1°C, RH 65%, DP 10.9°C, 1015 hPa (R), Wind calm. _____________________ Nick Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Pity I've been inside all the time, but there should be time for some sunshine garden time tomorrow! |
