Wow, 1060mb High over the Pole forecast for the 19th.

There's something very strange going on, could this be a once in a
lifetime December, and maybe even winter as a whole?

This is getting too silly. Too silly.

Northern hemisphere is very stagnant looking at the recent GWO.

What will give it a kick-start?

T; your first post was correct - the Atlantic is "dead". I agree.
There's a very low chance of it livening up for 10 days at least. Your
second post is purely speculative ramping. I'll rephrase in a
different, reality-based genre for those who mix realism with their
meteorology.

"There is nothing very strange going on, don't worry. This December is
now likely to be colder than average, though you can't be more than
75% certain beyond the end of the second third of the month what the
actual weather will be and no-one has any idea about the rest of the
winter. It could be the coldest December ever and it could be the
coldest winter in the UK for hundreds of years, but the chances of
that are very low and though one would never say it cannot happen, one
would be sillier than the staff at the Ministry for Silly Walks to lay
money on it happening" Better and more likely?

Could you please point out briefly to a complete novice why this looks
strange, and what it would/should normally look like at this time of year?

Cheers!
John.

Something like this Togless http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/ar...0119991208.gif

With Low Pressure to the North West of the UK, and the Jet Steam
(roughly the black 552 line) heading West to East across the UK.

This is true for the late 80s through to early 2000s - but not the
norm for 80s winters??

Thanks, that makes sense. It looks like Greenland is unusually warm while
we're freezing here in the UK at present. Interesting.
