Can I second that as having been reading this group for years the
information provided by people like Will and Jon is second to none.
Such a shame that we have lost a few people like Philip from the newsgroup.

Keep up the good work chaps.

that's a new one - a forecast on something that has already happened!
That on top of his failure to predict the December freeze. I liked
JB's predictions up until last summer but he's lost all relevance this
winter... I don't bother looking at Accuweather anymore....

I would like to add my two penny worth. I think the next week will
indeed be mild and we will get temperatures into double figures, more
or less right across the country. I do agree with Will that eventually
the block will re-establish. The latter stages of the GFS have been
more or less consistent in going for a block and a good number of the
ensembles support this. Indeed the key will be once again the warm
advection over eastern Canada and if you look at the ECMWF run you
will notice that at T+240, which is very similar to the GFS there is a
strong advection of warm air. This agreement in long range forecasts
is not all that common and I imagine it is because they are both
responding to large scale forcing i..e the SSW.

According to the BBC online forecast it gets markedly warmer on Tuesday
- perhaps warm enough to shift any snow still lying around lowland
Scotland, but the satellite photographs seems to show that it's all gone
already.
