Snowy begining and end. Frosty March - Cool. Frosty start, snowy end April - Average. Pleasant mid-month May - Dry, sunny and quite decent June - Consistently warm and dry July - Very wet, dull and often breezy August - Quite dry but rather cool September - Showery, cool end but decent otherwise October - Cold around and after mid-month November - Very Wet 1st half, very cold and snowy second half December - Freezing!!! Record breaking persistent deep cold. Exceptional dates (Top 5 by personal preference) 1) December 6th - Ten inch snowfall in 5 hours, falling on top of an eight inch cover, bringing the whole region to it's knees with transport chaos for several days. 2) December 8th - The coldest day and night for 15 years. 3) July 4th - First instance of a gale recorded during a summer month, many branches down and apples! 4) November 2nd - Tremendous hail storm in the middle of the night 5) December 25st - A white Xmas yet again, and the local river frozen from bank to bank after the coldest month for almost 200 years and the coldest December recorded. An exceptionally icy evening too with freezing rain events that spared no surfaces. Additional comments One statistic explains everything really. 2010 had more hours of frost than it had hours of sunshine. And it was actually a very sunny and rather dry year. The coldest year locally since 1986 and the most snowy since 1979. December 2010 was historically cold and disruptive. Welcome to Narnia! |
