uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

Clouded over mid morning (I work near Cranleigh, Surrey) and lots of
thunder for about a three hour period, but not much in the way of rain. I guess nearly all the cells passed just to the west of here. A significant temperature drop after it all went through; felt warm cycling to work this morning in shorts and T-shirt, was distinctly chilly cycling back this evening. |

As a Cranleigh resident, I concur with all of that. Only two of the instances of thunder were loud enough to suggest that the lightning strikes were fairly local. -- John Hall "The covers of this book are too far apart." Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914) |

Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914) From South Norfolk A very warm and sunny spell late morning with cloud increasing 1330Z and Thunder/Lightning for 3 hours continuously thereafter , but rain was continuous slight for around 4 hours with only very brief mod bursts. I reckon no more than 4 mm total. No sign of any debris or flooding along road back to mid Suffolk this evening, I have 5.3 mm in my guage. According to local BBC news, just West of Bury St Edmunds recorded 30mm and pictures show large areas of muddy water which caused rail traffic to stop at Kennet NSS Mid Suffolk |

I was working 2.5km S of Kennet station and saw just 4mm recorded on a gauge known to over-read. At home, ~15km to the west, there was evidence of about 2-3mm of rain for the day. Cycling "waterproofs" still drying in kitchen though :-( Mike |
