... "Alan LeHun" wrote in message ... Gavino's contributions are always welcome. Especially when Spain is having "interesting" weather. Thank you, Alan. I wasn't sure if anyone was interested in Spanish weather, so it's nice to get confirmation that at least one person is! I only report something when it's at least a little out of the ordinary. Keep posting, I'm another who enjoys reading weather reports from those other regions in all seasons. I just hope we don't get any long track Southerlies in the UK in the near future :-) -- Pete Please take my dog out twice to e-mail --------------------------------------------------------------- The views expressed above are entirely those of the writer and do not represent the views, policy or understanding of any other person or official body. --------------------------------------------------------------- |

Weather knows no national boundaries and it's always interesting to hear what's going on elsewhere in the world, even if it's not coming to the UK. No doubt Gavino will be along to give us more details about that storm in mMadrid that blew the Pope's skull cap off, and won't be put off by the Tibbs idiot. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

Well, if you're interested in south-west France, we too have been having record temperatures: I think it got to 42 along the Garonne valley yesterday, and it was 36 up on our usually breezy hill above the Dordogne. Flat calm, humid, minimum temp was 25 just at dawn. Inside our old stone house (built into the rock, damp and cold in spring and autumn, no central heating, uninhabitable in winter) it was 24. Our neighbours in a converted barn registered 35 in their loft bedroom. It's a little cooler today (just 30 at 10am) and cloudy. No doubt Gavino will be along to give us more details about that storm in mMadrid that blew the Pope's skull cap off, and won't be put off by the Tibbs idiot. Longing for storms here. But we're clearly not True Catholic enough to draw the Lord's ire.... Nor are we having a festival - did you see the awful account of the storm at Pukkelpop? -- Kate B PS nospam means nospam. ... Today (Fri 19th) was very hot across most of mainland Spain, with temperatures over 35C across large parts of the country. Hottest maxima were in the SW, where Sevilla (Seville) and others recorded 42C. Sevilla followed that with a *minimum* of 29C on Saturday morning (which means that for most of the night, temperatures were over 30C). Tomorrow (Sat 20th), the heat is expected to move to the NE, with Zaragoza forecast to hit a max of 41C. Some all-time records for this part of the country could be broken. In the event, Zaragoza did reach 41C, but was still beaten by Sevilla which again reached 42C. Although such hot weather is less common in NE Spain, I'm not aware of any records being broken. Today (Sunday), while Zaragoza still reached 39C, and parts of Mallorca (Majorca) recorded 40C, Sevilla had a much cooler day at 29C max. This was because a mass of colder air at altitude brought cloud, rain and thunderstorms to western and central Spain. You probably saw reports of the Pope's open-air gathering in Madrid on Saturday night being interrupted by wind and rain. This followed a baking hot day in the capital (39C), during which thousands of pilgrims (reports say up to a million) had assembled without shade at the aptly named Cuatro Vientos (Four Winds) airfield on the southern outskirts of the city. Soon after the pontiff began to speak (now after nightfall), the heavens opened (divine providence?), and he was forced to cut short his address. Several marquees were blown down, and between the earlier heat and the later storms, about 2500 people required medical treatment. While the heat continues in the NE, the storms are expected to affect mostly NW Spain tomorrow (Mon) before heading out to the Bay of Biscay (and possibly towards the UK). |
