We`ll see.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose it makes a change from their usual front page fodder of house prices, immigrants or 'Diana Still Dead' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two questions to ask about the forecast: (1) Have they (the tabloid press) ever been right? (2) Does the readership care? I think the answer to both is no. It is pure headline grabbing titillation and sensationalism. The worry is that the readership's opinion that weather forecasts (on all timescales) are a joke and rubbish is just reinforced on such occasions. For these forecasts journalists have sourced some self-styled meteorologist attached to one of the small weather companies who would not mind some publicity, knowing that there will be no comeback or verification to face. Perhaps there ought to be more accountabilty, as those poor Italian geologists face a trial over the non-forecast of the earthquake at L'Aquila in 2009. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-09-2...site=newcastle Len Wood Wembury, SW Devon, 83 m asl |

Is it just me or are these winter forecasts getting earlier every year? Perhaps it's just an illusion like Christmas seemingly getting earlier every year...... A week or two ago, the rush towards winter seemed to have suddenly accelerated. I woke up when it was still pretty dark and thought it must be around 5 am. I checked my clock and found it was almost six, so I thought it must be thick cloud. Looked outside and the sky was clear and just lightening. Remembered that I'd been waking up much later than usual for a few weeks - about 7 am - and that had thrown me. Just after half-six, I walked to the paper shop and realised I needed a coat on as there was quite a nip in the air. Thought it seemed quite wintry. On entering the paper shop, the first thing I saw was a picture of Santa on a box of Xmas chocolates. Girl behind the counter agreed that it was stupidly early but they had to go along with the orders from head office. On the way home, again thinking it was cold enough for winter, I saw someone walking towards me and thought his gait was rather odd. Then I recognised the behaviour was of someone walking on ice. As soon as I thought it, he looked at his feet, as though taking care that he didn't plant his feet on a particularly slippy piece of ice. I hurried home, wondering why everything seemed to be conspiring to make me think I'd slept through three months and awoken in December! -- Graham Davis, Bracknell Whilst it's true that money can't buy you happiness, at least you can be miserable in comfort. Everyone, sit up and take notice for the great sage, Piers, speaks and all
must listen... ;-) http://www.weatheraction.com/docs/WANews11No21.pdf Actually, I agree with some of what he says in relation to the batch of forecasters that have started this severe winter craze, most notably, James Madden (aka Weathergeek, Exactaweather, etc)! As for Piers own forecasts well.............less said the better. Joe "Graham P Davis" wrote in message ...
