I notice that the October maximum is 29.5 from Cambridgeshire in 1985.
Countryfile mootes 27s on Friday (30th October) - I wonder if anywhere will get near. Gravesend? Off to a wedding on Saturday - I doubt my friend would have planned for (potentially) such good weather in October! Richard |

Glad someone else takes an interest. Daily maxes end of Sept/Start of Oct, from Torro. Not the most truestworthy site, as they take a long time to update their records, but the best source I know of. SEPTEMBER 29 27.8 82 York 1895; 27.6/81.6 Nottingham 1895 30 27.8 82 Maidenhead (Berks) 1908 OCTOBER C F 1 29.4 84.9 March (Cambs) 1985 2 28.1 82.6 Whitby (N Yorks) 1908 I don't see records myself. I think we'll be at least a couple of degrees short on each day, but we have a very warm spell of weather coming up. I hope we get a record, as records - and the synoptic reasons for them - are just so interesting. BTW I don't think individual records have anything to do with GW, but when you collate the numbers of local and national max records set worldwide in 2010 and compare it to the number of local and national minimum records being set, you see how they fit the trend very well: http://www.mherrera.org/temp.htm |

Richard In that year the maxima recorded on 1 Oct in Cambridge/East Anglia etc were the highest of the year, which is very unusual and show what a poor summer 1985 was. The maximum here was 25.2° which exceeded anything in September or August but there were a couple of higher max's in July. On 31 Oct 1985 I recorded a max of 6.8° which remained a record low max for October until 29 Oct 2008 with 6.5°. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
