Here's one to take you back to the good old nostalgic days, remember it well, Ventnor was cut off for 10 days, the old man was pouring the milk down the drain as the milk lorry couldn't get through..

Interesting that the forecast on the page mentioned the incursion of
rain or freezing rain into the SE for a while.

Thanks Mike

A month I remember well. I was a teenager living in Jersey during that
winter where on the 19th January even the sea froze opposite our house on St
Aubin's Bay. That day the maximum temperature was 23F with a strong easterly
blowing direct from France only 9 miles away. It snowed lightly all day.
On the 3rd January Jersey was in slightly milder air to the south of the
front which brought all the snow to southern England, and I recall how
disappointed I was that Jersey missed it! However, Jersey remained in cold
air for much of that winter with further snow at times. Even the sea
temperature at St Helier fell to 37F in February

And IIRC the forecast was correct for my part of Surrey. There was
drizzle in the morning with a temperature of about 1C, By the afternoon
it was dry and by mid-afternoon the temperature had dipped below
freezing again.

I can't remember much about recent weather events, but I can remember a
lot of the 1962-3 winter in some detail.

If you go to Mikes site he

http://www.mikett.plus.com

scroll down to synoptic charts for '62 and '63. Good old charts I used to look at in the Daily Telegraph everyday (I think, certainly I did...)

IOW (still waiting for rain...)
