Default Exeter - wettest June for at least 41 years

Another dollop of heavy rain yesterday evening and overnight has allowed my total for the month so far to soar ahead of 2009 (130.4mm) which was the previous wettest June in local records going back to 1971. Total now stands at 144.6 mm, but not for long looking at the radar picture!

Hi Peter, big raindrops falling yet again here in Haytor. And it is so
GLOOMY, house lights are on, it could easily be November, even the
temperature is just +12.1C at 1045.

Although veg. aren't growing, it so lush, grass is rampant and huge leafy
growth everywhere. Fortuantely being cool the slugs and snails are not in
evidence. Also my hostas are looking magnificent as they love this weather!

Personally that's why I think this June is so horrible, worse even
than July 2007.
Yes, it's rained a lot but it's not the rain per se. It's the presence
of low-base(at a guess between 1000-2000ft) cloud on so many days.
That and the frequent strong winds.

If we had more days of high-base cumulus and heavy slow moving
showers, with lengthy sunny spells in between - and light winds - it
would be much more bearable even if we had a high number of rain-days
and cool temperatures.

Up to 109 mm here for June so far.

Recorded 136 mm in June 2007 at my old place further up the valley.

Not as wet I as forecast here today with just 6.6mm but we are still up to
110 mm for the month. We are still a long way behind our June records of
154mm in 2007 and 166mm in 1980!
Sun hours now struggled up to a whopping 30.8 after 21 days, so the low
record of 81.1 hours set in 1987 looks there for the taking
At least the temperatures have picked up, only 1.1c below average now

Looking like plenty of the wet stuff and very little sunshine over the next
few days at least.
