With almost have of this summer gone, could it turn out to be one of the worst on record?
I'm not sure how you compare one summer with another, when combining the three elements of temperature, rainfall & sunshine? It's easy comparing one summer with another when using just one of the elements, but is there somekind of index that combines all three elements, because if there is I'm pretty sure this summer will turn out to be one of the worst on record. |

Then A:- 2 = Excellent B:- 2-4 = Good C:- 4-7 = Average D:- 7-12 = Crap E:- 12 = 2012 Dave, S.Essex |

It doesn't help when I'm posting from my iPhone on a small screen, I often make typo errors, but there's really no excuses for that spelling mistake by me.

It's still possible that August might turn out dry, warm and sunny. That would leave this summer still below average, but not one of the worst. We were discussing such indexes in a thread the other day. If you search on "simple summer index" you may be able to find the discussion. -- John Hall Johnson: "Well, we had a good talk." Thanks John, I'll have a look
at that thread, I haven't been checking here as much recently. One thing I've noticed, with the GFS, summer always seems two weeks away, just as in winter it always seems winter is two weeks away, lol. |

Someone on the UKweatherworld devised a subjective method to score individual summer days based on those three parameters. The monthly score is the average of all the days in the month. http://tinyurl.com/cmnbsp8 |
