Thunder here at 1252Z with a short heavy shower. This is the fourth
day out of the last five that has had thunder, three of them showery- type, one frontal/cyclonic. In 2010/11 there were only 9 days of thunder here (mean for 2 years 32) and only one in July. Things are returning to normal though perhaps at a price. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, NE Surrey, 556 ft. |

Thunder at Guildford (at last - the first occurrence since 1st May) at 1528 / 1533 / 1541 (lightning in rear of Cb to east) / lightning only, 1551. This was preceded by brief heavy shower (about 1.5 mm) at 1520~1525. First thunder occurred when the cell was still large Cu and was only beginning to glaciate to Cb after 1545. |

Continuing from this, there were continual heavy showers with thunder up to 2000Z and yet another, without thunder at about 2130Z. Heavy shower with much small hail and some large stuff (7 mm) at 1800Z. This all came to 19.1 mm and the total for the month to 102.4 mm - twice the normal and only 11 days gone.
