Default East Dorset ... and still it keeps raining!

.... as of 12/1800Z JUL 2012, our month's rainfall total is now 132.3 mm:
this represents ~270% of the 1981-2010 eLTA & beats the July 2007 total
of 118.6 mm comfortably. This is significant as July 2007 was (using the
nearby Hurn record) the wettest July in their 1957+ dataset, so we've
almost certainly had, with less than half the month gone, our wettest
July for over half-a-century.

At Hurn, using the SYNOP data, the total rainfall this month is 125 mm;
this exceeds the previous July highest of 119mm in the aforementioned
2007. Of perhaps greater significance, again bearing in mind we've yet
to reach half-way this month, the combined rainfall total for June &
July at Hurn = 261mm: this exceeds the previous wettest such-named
pairing (again in 2007) by 45 mm.

And mid-afternoon temps languished at 12.5c here in the rain. No wonder I
put the heating on when I got home from work!

Martin, I usually keep an eye on the data on
http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html but the rasinfall data has
not been reported for the past 2 days or so (as of the 9th, the monthly
total so far stood at 203% of normal).
Where can I access the synop data you speak of, please?

Martin, I usually keep an eye on the data on
http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html but the rasinfall data
has not been reported for the past 2 days or so (as of the 9th, the

Where can I access the synop data you speak of, please?

Jim (and others for information):

I use two very useful sites -

(1): the Meteociel site he....
http://www.meteociel.com/

Then select ... "Climatologie" ... "Tableaux horaires"

Use the 'drop-down' box (should default to Abbeville), and the section
lower down is for the non-Frence stations, and you'll find 'Bournemouth
(UK)' listed - remember to click OK, then as well as the graphical
output, scroll down the page and you'll see hour-by-hour data based on
the SYNOPs available on the WWW. Remember that the times displayed are
CET, so for GMT take off 2 hours, but its obvious which are the main
hours as they're the only ones with rainfall (far right-hand column)
against them.

(2): the OgiMet site he....
http://www.ogimet.com/home.phtml.en

If you know the SYNOP code, then use the 'Synop reports' link (which I
prefer), otherwise choose "Daily summaries" and enter the Hurn station
number 03862. You can also see the data plotted on charts ... scroll
down to the "Synops over countries" options and choose from the various
tabs at the top to achieve the rainfall data ...

Martin.
