This afternoon I was at the League 2 football match between Wycombe Wanderers and Bristol Rovers. After about ten minutes of the second half a heavy thunderstorm broke overhead with frequent lightning and torrential rain. Visibility was down to only a few hundred metres. There was a short period of hail also. After a few minutes the referee took the players off the pitch and ten minutes later the match was abandoned. There was a lot of standing water on the pitch. This is the second time that I have been at a football match at Adam's Park High Wycombe which has had to be abandoned due to weather. The other occasion was an evening match in October 2007 or 2008 which was abandoned due snow!

Or do they assume that once the game has commenced then refunds are not given? |

I was up in the City of London this afternoon and we had a corker of a storm. At least 5 strikes within a km - one of which hit Cannon Street station, apparently. One was practically overhead and through a gap between buildings I saw two CG strikes. Gusty winds and tropical rain. A joy! Richard |

Still, better to be able to replay the game rather than have both sides in hospital after being struck by lightning on the pitch. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNJRPOltifI |
