Default [WR] Sunderland 03.12.12 Not cold enough for snow...

Weather observation - Sunderland, Tyne & Wear 25m ASL
OS X (Eastings) 40944
OS Y (Northings) 54059
Lat (WGS84) N54:52:46 (54.879323)
Long (WGS84) W1:21:48 (-1.363282)
================================================== ===
Don't know whether the rain that arrived during the night first fell as snow, but it had certainly turned to rain when I first looked out at 6.30am this morning. With the temperature only just above freezing, I won't be surprised if I encounter some white stuff a little further inland, away from the coast.
Regards... David Allan

It started as fine powder snow with us at about 2300 last night.

Well you might but it was peeing down up here not long ago. What liitle came
down last night, just a sugar dusting, has gone. 50% of the inch that came
down on Thursday night and then froze to ice has gone. Temp 2.3C, what
happened to the several inches that lower levels were supposed to get last
night?

I suspect it was a bit of a panicky warning being the first widespread
event!
Warm fronts often disappoint at low-levels, warm occlusions are a different
matter though.
Just cold rain on Dartmoor as expected :-(

OTOH, so far as we're concerned, the warning was timely and accurate. It
started snowing at about 19:00 yesterday, by this morning we had about
3cms and the snow ploughs were out before we got up. It's now turned to
slush on the roads but untreated surfaces still have a good covering.

I hate it.

Well done, MO!

I was going to say those in Scotland have been reporting a more accurate
forecast.

about 3cms ...

An inch, oh woe the world is going to end! B-)

We didn't get a yellow warning about the inch that fell on Thursday night
last week, or the following days of sub-zero temps but just warm enough
during the day to slightly thaw that snow and have it refreeze into ice. Damn
lethal out there...

Currently 2.6C occasional rain, cloudbase not far above us. And it shows how
cold the ground/ice has got in the last few days as some of that ice is still
hard, despite the rain and air temp.
