If there is 1m of rain (1000 mm) in a year that means that over 1 sq m the total fall will be 1 tonne of water. Therefore over 1 sq km the total amount of water in a year will be 1 million tonnes. That's an impressive total - or have I got my sums wrong?! -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |

So why do we get floods? Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

My 'estimated' LTA is around 800 to 850 mm, so this really has been a wet year, and to think it was really dry until the 23rd of April. -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Ken Longwell Green, Bristol ST667709 40 m asl I am not far from you, and mine is 1350mm, which is made more dramatic by the fact that only 100mm fell between 1 Jan and 31 Mar this year. |
