Default The custard and blancmange now has a cherry on top...

Hi

The Met office have just (1230 on Thursday) upped their amber alert to red for just South Wales which strikes me as a bit bizarre and a bit overly precise but there you go.

Bruce.

I suppose that the area they've marked up just north of Cardiff is around 250m or higher, but if you do that then why not highlight Exmoor?

Obviously giving a snow level may not have clarified the warning but it might help the public gauge the severity by saying "rain near the coast, 2 to 5 cms inland but 15 to 25 cms on any higher ground above 250m"

I do hope that the "Be Aware" colour the Met Office use in their alerts is custard rather than of the egg-yolk kind...

I'll worry when we get a whole trifle with hundreds and thousands sprinkled
on the top :-)

Warnings are now issued with respect to impacts rather than just the
amount of snow. I imagine in this case its because there are a much
larger number of main and hilly routes in that area of southeast
Wales, including the important A465 'Heads of the Valleys' road, and
also potentially much higher numbers of people likely to be affected.
On Exmoor, on the other hand, there are relatively fewer main routes,
and a low population.
