Default Potential for storms in the SE

They seem to be playing this down, but with such a hot and humid air mass being over-ridden by cooler air off the Atlantic (cold front) tomorrow, there must be plenty of head scratching going on atm in the office!

That what I thought Keith. I can't see how thunderstorms can't happen
tomorrow.

Thunderstorms can *always* not happen. Despite what the soundings may tell you it always needs a trigger.

Looks like they've been triggered. ;-)

Yes read Keiths and Joe's posts around midnight, checked with the wonderful UKLMO sofware for Bromley (yes got it back again) and on there was not one teenie weenie dicky bird about rain and storms. However I awoke at 7:30 in the said area of Bromley to thunder rumbling and rain a falling.

Never mind.

Well forecast Keith and Joe.

Well done Keith outforecast the Met office on this one who did say

Just like the other week with that cell over Bracknell that Roy reported. Surely with all their data the MetO should be producing better forecasts at a local level

The MetO did forecast the storms on that occasion. They correctly
identified where a convergence zone would form, and the intensities
involved. The problem was that it was forecast to affect such a small
area that the emphasis would've (quite rightly) been on the dry
weather that the vast majority of the population would've
experienced. If the MetO had been emphasising the showers then I'm
sure there would've been plenty of complaints of 'over egging' of the
storms :-)

Maybe the probability of thunder was too small to allow much emphasis
in the forecasts issued yesterday? Seems they lucked out if that was
the case.
