Because I doubt you ever laugh at all and only reinforces the image of you a some frenzied maniacal character from a Hollywood horror B movie. I put it to you sir that you are one pixie short of a grotto. |

Depends on how you define "worst". By peak wind speed? Flooding? Size of area affected? Human impact? Duration of disruption? Insured/economic loss? The 23rd December storm may well be the worst for 20 years in terms of the total area of the UK impacted and the total transport disruption (one rail line near me will be closed until February), I don't know for sure. |

Depends on how you define "worst". By peak wind speed? Flooding? Size of area affected? Human impact? Duration of disruption? Insured/economic loss? Not the last I hope, at least not unless the figures are adjusted for inflation. Even then what seems to be an increasing tendency to build on flood plains may skew the figures. The 23rd December storm may well be the worst for 20 years in terms of the total area of the UK impacted and the total transport disruption (one rail line near me will be closed until February), I don't know for sure. But I think it was the storm last Thursday/Friday that the papers were claiming to be the worst for 20 years, rather than the earlier one. -- John Hall "He crams with cans of poisoned meat The subjects of the King, And when they die by thousands G.K.Chesterton: Why, he laughs like anything." from "Song Against Grocers" |

The high tide in one specific location was the worst they had seen for flooding in 20 years - which isn't the same thing at all. Bad news for those that got flooded but it wasn't even as notable as the earlier and infamous St Jude "storm of the century" non-event. What was the minimum pressure of this most recent storm low? -- Regards, Martin Brown |

Tonight's storm is is warming up now with gales already gusting to 40+mph but there is nothing much left for them to snap off. Earlier violent storms have snapped everything seriously weak - the only problem is that with waterlogged soft ground whole trees may topple. -- Regards, Martin Brown |
