Default Unbroken sunshine on the longest day - 15.6 hours?

The sunshine recorder turned on around 10 seconds after 5:30 this
morning. The earliest it has start recording sunshine this year
(obviously but still indicative of the very clear conditions).

Last night the recorder turned off at 21:05 (very clear conditions as well).

If things remain as they are with cloudless, clear skies and say the
recorder turns off at 21:06, then there will have been 15.63 hours of
sunshine. That is a remarkable 95% of the total possible (the highest
percentage I've recorded this year to date).

It will not (and probably cannot) get better than that!

It could if the sun bothered to show its face here in Kirkwall, the day
is longer ;-)

I'm only jealous.

Yes Nick. I think this is quite unprecedented. Summer of '76, '75, '70 possibly?
The summer monsoon has set in by now in most other years

Haze and a few clouds to the north west late yesterday evening scuppered
the sunshine.

The recorder turned off at 19:41 giving a total for yesterday of 14.2
hours, that being only 86% of the total possible.

Today has unbroken sunshine again so far but the sky is rather hazy so I
doubt I'll see any record.

Friday (20th) may end up being the day with the most sunshine of the
year with 15.5 hours (94% of the total possible).

Given the forecast, June sunshine should surpass 200 hours tomorrow.

One of the most sensible things I ever did- though there's not much competition!- was to get a gas barbie.

For 30+ years I struggled along with charcoal. The steep learning curve I expected never materialised. I was as hopeless at it this year as I was in the '80s.
This brilliant spell has meant I've been using gas every evening-something virtually impossible with charcoal.
I've got a perfectly serviceable 'Outback' charcoal barbie free to a good home-any takers?
