It's a bit bracing on the summit of Cairngorm this morning. The 0700z
observation was SE 88 knots gusting 100 knots with a temperature of -0.1C. At 0400z it was SSE 92 knots gusting 106 knots but the temperature was a balmy +1.2C. Not many walkers up there today! -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. http://peakdistrictweather.org |

The Daily Wail said that 70mph gales had blown our summer away - so they were not exaggerating (if you were talking about a Scottish mountain!). And the Daily Excess is also talking about 70mph gales this week. |

Hi, Norman, Quite gentle by comparison, however Great Dun Fell area 20 miles from here and just short of 3000ft is gusting 61KT at 3C. Anemometer hasn't been recording correctly for some time but I estimate around 54KT mean speed so far. I expect a lull is awaited before the instruments are fixed! Ken Copley Teesdale |

Ken Copley Teesdale Ken, GDF old summit building my alma mater at least the UMIST (as was) part of it. I was there as they built the raydome and then got to use part of the new building, but I am sure I have told you this all before. I remember going out in the dark, cloud at 60 KT mean and almost not finding my way back. Thought I knew my way without a proper torch to check on things not that you could see that far - but I got disorientated and took a while to find the old building on my way back. I saw a picture of snow on Hartside top over the weekend too. Cheers, Andy |

I get up there about once each month. Are you sure about snow on Hartside last weekend?
