Currently 10.2C and windy. Recent gust of 37mph in Penzance, 45kt at St Ives.
Patchy overnight rain gave a total of 3.1mm Yesterday saw sunny spells and brief drizzly showers, with some nice rainbows. Here's one of them http://www.sennen-cove.com/today2.htm. Broken very low cloud beneath a milky blue sky. Blown out sea conditions with only moderate visibility at the moment. Graham Penzance |

Forecast visibility is excellent, but with the blown out sea conditions it's generally moderate for some miles inland. Pretty bleak really http://magicseaweed.com/Live-Sennen-Webcam/65/ , air full of salt spray right across the Land's End peninsula. Graham Penzance |

But I noticed a rather strange smell on the higher moor. Could it be salt? This far inland and this high up? It has a kind of "sea" tang to it. It is quite pervasive over a large area. It was 11.3C and the sun was shining, the thrush was singing and it was more like a March morning rather than late January! Then it all went downhill! Hardly any rain fell (if at all on some) from the succession of fronts that moved through adding up to 0.8 mm and it turned windy for a while though the maximum gust was only 32 mph at 11:50. Not as sunny as recently but still managed nearly 2 hours this afternoon. Just had a short (20 seconds) rain shower at 19:40. Temperature has dropped like a stone as there is no wind at the moment and the stars are shining. (19:57), 2.3C, RH 92%, DP 1.1C, 1006 hPa (F), Wind calm. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley (and with beavers too), Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Take a look http://www.sennen-cove.com/today2.htm. A blown out with a big ground sea and the air full of spray. The shape of the peninsula means that NW winds are normally stronger to the west of Camborne/Redruth than you might expect by the synoptic charts. (The reverse tends to be true in a SW) Very little rain in numerical terms (1mm since dawn) but it has been travelling near horizontally. At Land's End the mean speed's been up to F8 with gusts well 50mph, 40mph even in Penzance. Gusts well 60mph on the Island, St Ives. It's felt very raw. Graham Penzance |
